Baccarat OBJECTIVE: The objective of Baccarat is to see who, either the Banker or the player, draws a two-card hand totaling a value of nine, or at least comes closest to that number. There is only one main decision you have to make for each hand, whether to bet on the Banker, the player, or in favor of a tie. The dealer handles the rest, playing out the hands according to strict, predetermined rules. It's important to understand the Value of the Cards in Baccarat. THE ACTION: Prior to each deal, the player wagers on whether the Player's hand (you) or the Banker's hand is closest to a total of 9. After the Deal button is pressed, the Player and Banker are dealt two cards. The first and third cards go to the player. The second and fourth cards go to the Banker. If the first two cards total 9, the hand is called a natural and automatically wins. If the first two cards total 8, it's also called a natural and it wins automatically as well, unless the opposing hand has a natural too. When both hands have a natural, the higher hand wins (9 beating 8). After the first two cards are dealt to both the Player and Dealer, a third additional card may be dealt automatically based on the initial cards and the Third Card Rules. No hand receives more than three cards. After you press the deal button the program determines whether extra cards will be dealt. BETTING: In Baccarat, you can bet in favor of the player, the Banker, or in favor of a tie. The hand that comes closest to the sum of nine is always the winner. A Natural is an automatic winner. A combination of these bets can also be made. Place your wagered amount by clicking with the left mouse button or drag/dropping a coin into the area you want: the Player's field, the Banker's field, the Tie field, or any combination of these within the betting limits. Coin amounts are: $1, $5, $25, and $100. Some tables have a minimum bet of $5. You start the hand by pressing the Deal button. THE PAYOFF: A winning Player hand wager is paid at 1 to 1. A winning Banker hand wager is also paid at 1 to 1 but the player must pay a 5% commission to the bank. Winning tie wagers are paid at 8:1. The payoff is the same whether you bet on the player or the Banker. Bets in favor of the Bank, however, must pay a 5% commission to the House. For example, if you bet US$5.00 on the Banker and the Banker wins, then you will receive US$5.00 minus the 5% fee, which in this case is US$0.25 and which leaves you US$4.75 in winnings. Note: Although a bet on the Banker pays the 5% commission, you must keep in mind that the tendency is for the House to win more often that the player, so betting on the Bank does not constitute a bad strategy. In truth, Banker Bets and Player Bets practically offer the same possibilities of winning. In each case the House's advantage is very small - only 1.17% when it is a Banker Bet, opposed to 1.36% when it is a Player Bet. That is why statistically speaking you would do better placing your bets in favor of the Banker, but not by much. THE TIE BET: All bets are off when there is a tie, since nobody wins or loses. However, if you placed a Tie Bet, then you are entitled to a payoff of 8 to 1. For example, if you placed a US$5.00 Tie Bet, your payoff would be US$40.00. Ties, however, occur less than one out of every ten hands. MULTI-USER BACCARAT: The multi-user baccarat table seats up to five players, the dealer and multiple observers.
