Red Dog
Although Red Dog is a game of chance more than skill, you can still use a sound strategy while playing each hand.
THE OBJECTIVE: To predict whether the value of a randomly selected card falls between the value of two cards drawn previously by the dealer. It's important to understand the
Value of the Cards
in Red Dog.
THE ACTION: The game is played on a table similar to a blackjack table. In Red Dog, the player places an original
wager. Then, players press the "DEAL" button and the dealer draws two cards and places them face up on the table.
A black marker will be then be placed on the table indicating the spread between the two cards the dealer has drawn. Depending on the value of the two cards drawn by the dealer, players have the option to make a raise wager by clicking on the "RAISE" area on the table and a third card may or may not be drawn. This will depend on the values of the two cards drawn by the dealer. Three different situations may occur:
| Pair
Hand - A pair hand occurs when the dealer draws two cards of the same value. In this case, the dealer will automatically draw a third card. If the value of the third card is the same as the previous two, all players win with a payoff of 11:1. If the value of the third card is different from the previous two, the hand is declared a push and the player's original wager is returned.
|
| Consecutive
Hand - When the value of the two cards drawn by the dealer are consecutive (for example, a 5 and 6, or Queen and King) this is called a consecutive hand. In this case, the dealer will not draw a third card, the hand is declared a push and the player's original wager is returned.
|
Non-Consecutive
Hand - Most hands in Red Dog fall into this category. When the dealer draws two cards which are not consecutive or the same, this is called a non-consecutive hand. In this case, the dealer will announce the spread between the two drawn cards and place a Red Dog on the table indicating the spread.
The spread is the number of points between the values of the two cards drawn by the dealer. For example, if the two cards drawn by the dealer were 2 and Jack, the spread is 8 since there are eight values between the 2 and Jack (3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10).
When the spread is announced and marked (by the Red Dog), players have the option to make a raise wager by clicking on the "RAISE" area on the table up to the amount of the original wager prior to the dealer drawing the third card. Players then hit the "DRAW" button to prompt the dealer to draw the third card.
If this third card lands somewhere in-between the first two cards, the player wins. If it doesn't, the player loses.
